The Aerospace and Natural Science Academy of Toledo (ANSAT) is an innovative magnet school under Toledo Public Schools, catering to grades 7-12 across two campuses—the Aerospace Campus situated at the Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport and the Natural Science Campus adjacent to the Toledo Botanical Gardens.
Both campuses present students with a unique chance to pursue industry-recognized credentials in high-demand careers immediately post-high school and simultaneously earn college credits. Importantly, ANSAT extends this opportunity tuition-free to all Ohio residents.
The Aerospace Campus specializes in an FAA-regulated Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) program, enabling students to acquire Airframe and Powerplant certifications. This program has a distinctive collaboration with Delta Airlines, making ANSAT one of only two high schools in the United States with such a partnership. Beyond AMT, ANSAT provides pathways for Pre-Pilot and Drone Pilot programs, offering students the opportunity to obtain FAA Part 107 Commercial Drone Licenses and, through the after-school Flying Club, Private Pilots' licenses. The success of ANSAT students is evident, with notable achievements in SkillsUSA competitions at both state and national levels.
Upon visiting the Aerospace Campus, one is immediately struck by the palpable passion of students for aerospace pursuits, showcased through their participation and success in competitions.
On the Natural Science Campus, ANSAT broadens students' horizons through three concentrations: Animal Science, Wildlife and Sustainability, and Urban Agriculture. These concentrations provide students with diverse industry credentials, such as the Elanco Veterinary Medicine Certification, BASF Plant Science Certifications, and Ducks Unlimited Ecology Conservation and Management Certification.
The Animal Science pathway equips students with comprehensive skills in caring for animals throughout their life stages, offering hands-on experiences in collaboration with partner institutions like the Toledo Zoo and Aquarium. The Wildlife and Sustainability pathway prepares students for careers in preserving natural environments and resources, opening doors to coveted internships with the City of Toledo and Toledo Metroparks. Lastly, the Urban Agriculture pathway immerses students in sustainable organic food sources, leading to employment opportunities in greenhouse management, small livestock management, and hydroponic vegetable production within the community.
In essence, ANSAT stands as a beacon of excellence, providing students with a rich and diverse educational experience that not only prepares them for high-demand careers but also fosters a deep passion for aerospace and natural sciences. Through innovative programs and meaningful partnerships, ANSAT ensures its graduates are well-equipped for success in their chosen fields.
